Our priorities for Ely West

20 Mar 2024

On Thursday 18th April there are two by-elections in Ely West, one to elect Ross Trent to Ely West Ward on East Cambridgeshire District Council and the other to elect Will Novick to the City of Ely Council (Ely West).

Ross and Will both live in Ely, putting the interests of Ely first. They are both part of the strong and established team of Liberal Democrats already working hard for Ely and East Cambridgeshire. Ross and Will share the priorities of Ely residents, and will work hard to represent our community.

Our priorities for Ely

  • The great outdoors - We want to see Ely make the most of its wonderful green spaces, and maximise opportunities for children and adults to enjoy outdoor activities, whether it’s children’s play facilities or joined-up walking routes and cycle paths.
  • Safer together - We know how much residents want safer streets—free of anti-social behaviour, unlawful and dangerous parking, and speeding traffic. We have campaigned hard for the Combined Authority and County Council to repair the dangerous situation in which the Conservatives left the A10/A142 BP roundabout, and will continue to work with Lib Dem county councillors Piers Coutts and Alison Whelan to make it safe to cross for people on foot, on bicycles, or in wheelchairs.
  • New life on the high street - In the current economic climate, it’s painful to see high street shops closing down or facing real threats from the financial downturn or the competition from online shopping. We’ll do everything we can to support the survival and revival of our city centre in these hard times.
