Parking Enforcement

Liberal Democrats in East Cambridgeshire say enough is enough—it’s time to join the rest of England in introducing proper parking enforcement.

East Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats

Residents’ complaints are mounting about unlawful parking across the district. It’s dangerous for other road users. It reduces visibility for other motorists exiting junctions, and increases risk for cyclists and pedestrians.

Ours is now one of only three districts in England where the police are still responsible for parking and where there are no plans for the council to take on this responsibility. (The other two are Wealden in Sussex, and the Isles of Scilly.)

Parking enforcement in East Cambridgeshire is not a police priority. Thoughtless drivers know that if they park unlawfully on our streets nothing will be done.

But Conservative councillors in East Cambridgeshire refuse to let the council enforce on-street parking. They have spent two and a half years wasting police time pressing them to introduce their own invented volunteer scheme. It’s time to do what almost every other council does—enforce parking properly.

Do you want to see an end to dangerous, unlawful parking on the streets of Ely, our towns and villages? If so, join our campaign today.
