Communications Officer for Charlotte Cane MP

Can you turn local issues, casework themes and parliamentary priorities into clear, compelling communications that help residents engage with their MP’s work?

Charlotte Cane MP is seeking a proactive and highly organised Communications Officer to play a vital role in shaping and delivering her communications across her constituency and beyond.

You will lead on producing timely and effective public communications, including social media content, press releases, newsletters, graphics, videos and other materials that help residents understand Charlotte’s work and the issues affecting Ely and East Cambridgeshire.

Working closely with Charlotte and the wider team, you will identify emerging themes from casework, local meetings and community engagement, and turn them into accurate, accessible and engaging communications. All members of Charlotte's team are also involved in supporting here in answering constituent queries based on policy.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who combines excellent writing skills with creativity, discretion and sound judgement, and who wants to play a central role in communicating the work of a strong local champion.

Duties include:

  • Lead the development and delivery of the MP’s communications strategy across all key channels.
  • Coordinate the MP’s social media presence, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, timely and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Work closely with the MP and colleagues to identify emerging themes and translate them into effective public communications.
  • Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
  • Produce press releases, liaise with the media, meeting deadlines as appropriate
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members
  • Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required
  • Draft responses to constituents
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation
  • The role may require occasional travel and work outside normal hours.

Essential Skills and Qualities

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and accurately for different audiences and formats. 
  • Strong judgement, including the ability to handle sensitive, high-profile or fast-moving issues appropriately. 
  • Proven ability to develop clear messages and turn complex policy, casework or local issues into accessible public communications. 
  • Strong understanding of social media and digital communications, including the ability to create, edit and publish engaging video content for key platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail, including accuracy, tone, grammar, proof-reading and factual checking. 
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and deliver high-quality work at pace. 
  • Confidence in dealing professionally with journalists, stakeholders, constituents and colleagues. 
  • Discretion, resilience and sound judgement when handling confidential information or working under pressure.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in parliamentary or communications roles is ideal.
  • Knowledge of the constituency.

Caseworker for Charlotte Cane MP

Are you passionate about helping people navigate complex problems and making a tangible difference in your local community? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, public-facing role that demands strong organisation, sound judgement, and empathy?

Charlotte Cane MP is seeking a committed and highly organised Caseworker to join her constituency office team in person. 

The Caseworker will play a vital role in supporting Charlotte to be an active, impactful, and approachable Member of Parliament. You will provide advice and practical support to constituents on a wide range of issues, including housing, welfare, and public services, managing a significant and often sensitive caseload. This will involve liaising with government departments, local authorities, voluntary organisations, and other agencies to help resolve individual cases effectively.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the work of a strong local champion and to support residents when they need help most.

As this is a full-time, office-based role within a small constituency team, the postholder will be expected to work their contracted hours during normal office hours, with any flexibility around working patterns agreed in advance and subject to the operational needs of the office.

Duties include:

  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports
  • Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
  • Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required
  • Draft responses to constituents
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP
  • Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
  • Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
  • To manage and progress a varied caseload of constituent enquiries, including both individual casework matters and those relating to policy.
  • The role may require occasional travel and work outside normal hours.

Essential Skills and Qualities

  • Ability to manage, prioritise and progress a large and varied caseload, including sensitive and complex cases, while working well under pressure
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to urgent situations which may arise with little notice
  • Sound judgement, including the ability to recognise risk, escalate concerns appropriately, and maintain strict confidentiality when handling office information
  • Ability to manage expectations sensitively and professionally, including in challenging or emotionally difficult circumstances
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to draft letters, emails and case notes to a high professional standard
  • Good IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office and case management systems
  • Ability and willingness to develop knowledge in specialist policy and casework areas
  • Ability to work independently, using initiative, while also contributing effectively as part of a small team
  • Discretion, professionalism and empathy when dealing with constituents, colleagues and external agencies

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in parliamentary roles or casework is ideal.
  • Knowledge of the constituency.
  • Familiarity with Caseworker MP software, and/or CRM systems.
