Lib Dem Charlotte says Lib Dems have "wind in our sails" following historic by-election victory

Charlotte Cane, Liberal Democrat MP candidate for Ely & East Cambridgeshire, has said the party’s victory in the Somerton and Frome by-election shows the party has the “wind in our sails”.

The Liberal Democrats overturned a massive Conservative majority of 19,000, with a swing of 29 per cent. A swing just a fraction of the size of that seen last night in Somerset would see the Liberal Democrats gain Ely & East Cambridgeshire from the Conservative Party at the next General Election. 

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Ely & East Cambridgeshire, Charlotte Cane, said:

“The Liberal Democrats have the wind in our sails following last night’s stunning by-election win in Somerset. If that result was repeated here in Ely & East Cambridgeshire during a General Election, we would be on course for an historic victory.

“Liberal Democrats heard the same thing in Somerset as I do here in Ely & East Cambridgeshire.  People are telling us they're sick of having to wait weeks to see a GP while their mortgages and rents go through the roof.

“It’s clear that at the next election, it will be a two horse race here between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives."
