Your Candidates for the Sutton Ward
Sutton, Mepal, Witcham and Wentworth need better services and facilities. More doctors, play and sports facilities, school places and public transport – not just new housing.
This area badly needs more homes that are affordable, so that young families can live locally and not have to move to Wisbech or Peterborough to find somewhere they can afford. Housing should be built according to plans agreed by the council and communities, not under pressure from speculative developers, and we need the services that every family needs.

People shouldn’t have to wait weeks to see their doctor and we must always ensure that there are enough school places in our villages themselves so that children can go to a local school and not need to travel. Sutton Parish Council’s improvements to the play area are very welcome but we still need more and better facilities including for teenagers. We need regular and more frequent bus connections to Ely, to Longstanton for the guided bus, and to facilities like the leisure village on the A10.
The Conservatives running East Cambs have been making these problems worse, not better. Too many planning decisions favour developers rather than local residents and the Conservative shambles over the local plan will allow developers a field day.
There badly needs to be a clear out at the council.
