Downham Villages Demand Better

Protecting our villages

Doris Brenke and Lorna Dupre discussing how to protect our villages

Our villages need protection from inappropriate developments as a result of the Conservative shambles over the Local Plan.

We need a proper Local Plan urgently so that developers can’t get away with building in unsuitable places, damaging our villages for decades.

Improving public transport

We need to make it possible for people who don’t own a car to live in our villages without feeling trapped.

The lack of public transport is a real problem that the Conservatives have made worse.

More affordable homes

Doris Brenke looking for affordable homesWhere are young families to live if the only homes being built in our villages are expensive ‘executive’ homes? Other areas are much better than Conservative East Cambs at ensuring more homes are affordable.

“I want to stand up for our villages”

Doris Brenke with Lorna Dupre - Downham Villages

Little Downham, Coveney, Pymoor, Wardy Hill and Way Head need a councillor who lives locally and will stand up for our villages.

Like many people locally, I run a small business from home. I’ve been a local parish councillor. I’ve worked on local rights of way that are important in this area, and on the village interpretation boards which we still see in Coveney, Little Downham and other nearby villages.

With few local facilities, we need better public transport so that those without a car can access medical appointments, shopping and leisure.

We also need better roads: they are atrocious in many places, with poor road surfaces, speeding, congested parking, and more and more lorries rat-running through our villages to avoid the growing traffic on the A142.

I want more housing that local people can actually afford. Too many ‘executive’ homes, and no affordable homes are being built in our villages, which means that young people are being forced to move away from their families because homes are too expensive.
